Palm Springs Weekend

Last year K gave me the book, Palm Springs Weekend, for my birthday. This year he took me on a surprise getaway to that very place. Lucky 30!

We left on FRIDAY. After checking into the motel we found our room which was called The Leopard Lounge, a complimentary theme to the HCFF we had planned. We dropped our bags, did the mandatory run and jump on the bed and promptly set out to the poolside bar for the daily happy hour (free! whee!). We each drank three Orbitini's before walking into town for a just okay dinner at Matchbox. I was really fired up about a rude interaction between a waiter and a busser which interfered with the taste of the food. We got to dine outside though, which, I do believe, is one of life's greatest pleasures.

Before the day was done we took a dip in the pool.

On SATURDAY we each ate a cookie, learned to ride a tandem bicycle, and marveled at some of the fantastic midcentury homes about town. See:

SUNDAY was stormy so we rented a car, drove out past the windmill fields and followed the road to Joshua Tree National Park. It was all stunningly beautiful.

This trip surpassed all my birthday dreams. And I still get to have a dance party!

Let’s give them something to blog about (blog about love)

I’m gettin’ hitched to k this summer. Yeah. I feel silly and girlish writing this here, but it is also precisely why this is it. I knew there was no resisting this boy when he wooed me with the Emmy equation:

NYC 1945 + Hollywood 1959 + London 1967 + Seattle 1978 + {x} = Emmy

(you've got the savvy of a no-nonsense new yorker in 1945, the glamour
of a 1959 hollywood starlet, the style of a 1967 london swinger, and
the simple joy and upbringing of 1978 seattle).

I did, however, resist for a time. I did it because I was uncertain of my preparedness for the big love that he brought to town. Turns out I am more prepared than I give myself credit for.

There was no resisting him, not a chance, from this moment on:

Swooning all the way.
