Delightful Surprise

While walking back to work from my homeward bound lunch break I came across a car with the hatch open and a gathering crowd. I investigated. The car was a Toyota Yaris (new to me) with writing all over it. Several young people were handing out ice cream. As I left with my fudgsicle I also learned that I could participate in a "craft clinic" at the silk screening studio on 10th between Pike and Union. I got to pick an American Apparel T-shirt and then select a design to create my very own shirt. I chose a black shirt and a design with ships reflected in the water in green. A very helpful and very braless gal guided me through the process. It turned out really cool.

I hope, if you ever see me wearing it, that you will tell me how damn fine I look in it and then marvel at my crafty skills.

Toyota sure knows how to market to this girl and now has their finger on my trigger. I'll skip the Yaris and forever long for their hybrid. Bang, Prius, bang.

My family likes to shake the shaggy dog

At the reunion banquet dinner in Big Sky there was a cover band. From the first note of the first song - Hurt So Good - until I retired four hours later as the band rallied on with a forgetten Poison song, the dance floor was packed with four generations of boogiers. The children made most of the requests and the long haired band leader was very impressed with their musical knowledge. The set list (from memory) included, but was not limited to, the following:

YMCA
We Are Family
Sweet Home Alabama
I Will Survive
I Want You to Want Me
Any Way You Want It
A Van Halen song
Twist and Shout - Beatles
American Girl
*Dead or Alive
Brown Eyed Girl
I Want to be Sedated
You Really Got Me
A David Bowie song
567-5309
Brick House
Funky Town
Love Shack
Just What I Needed
Billy Jean
Girls Just Want to Have Fun
Old Time Rock n Roll
Dancing Queen
Shook Me All Night Long
Blister in the Sun
Play that Funky Music
Wild Thing - Tone Loc
Tricky
Hit Me With Your Best Shot
A Joan Jett song

*Cousin Jimmy was coaxed onstage by the family and the band to sing a song of his choosing. I was surpised and delighted by his choice. Later, when some young drunk locals stormed the dance floor and asked him what band he was in, he told them "Creed." It was hilarious.

Mr. Movie Visit #343

"Shiri, the only hint I'll give you is fish." And as it is impossible for him to leave without a mumble, as we he walked away, "South Korea, mmmmmm."

Family Reunion #1

I have twin seven year old cousins, Colin and William. On Saturday morning, at the 8th Curran Family Reunion in Big Sky Montana, I ate breakfast with them.

Colin had gone to bathroom when the food arrived. When Wil's food was placed before him he looked at it and questioned himself, "what should I eat first?"

Colin returned and the first thing he did was look at his food and ask the same question. Twins!

Also, the other day their dad was reading to them. Wil reached over and scratched Colin's arm. Their dad asked what was going on and Colin said, "my arm itched." I'm off to read twin studies because this kind of mind meld is fascinating to me.

Smitten no longer

I retract my earlier post that raved on about Liberty. On my second visit the wait was equally as long and not nearly as endearing. I do still swear by the wilted spinach roll, yum. No yum is worth an hour of waiting. Waiting and watching your waitress take breaks to talk on the phone with no visible sign of back up from the kitchen. I am back to my regular irritable state. Hooray!

Jost overheard...

...From an unseen woman by the elevators "ouch, that just shucked the dinglights out of me."

This is not one that I've heard before, but I liked it.

Mr. Movie Visit #342

Today my own personal critic arrived in a frazzled state of half words. In an attempt to remember the latest movie to catch his fancy he spit out "something mules....Tommy Lee Jones." Because of my marvelous deductive powers of reason I was able to ascertain that the movie to which he referred was The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada.

He has not yet seen the movie but promised to have a "progress report on Friday."

As always, I sit in eager anticipation. He has endeared himself to me.
