les classy bucket

we hosted a dinner on sunday night. our apartment was transformed into a restaurant of sorts, a restaurant called les classy bucket. the food was primarily collected from jenn's garden. we supplemented a few items with a visit to the capitol hill farmer's market. jenn was our fearless leader. under her direction, we labored for eight hours, and then a meal was born.

our chef's vision, gorgeous and delicious:
green salad
greek salad (with green beans)
two kinds of fresh baked breads
handmade ravioli stuffed with beats and potatoes
ravioli - again with the handmade - stuffed with chard and ricotta in a vegetable broth, freckled with kernels of corn
wine and peach/raspberry/blueberry pie with whipped cream on top

tomatoes from the garden

beans!

beautiful beets

utensils

taking a break

bread cooling on the window sill

moxie nights

i've got a new ritual. it started last week and involves me having the apartment to myself on wednesday nights. the ritual is composed of two parts:

1. simply to enjoy my space / be a space maker /savor my time and express my gratitude for this sweet little life i've got.
2. listen to the roadhouse + riz because they play quality music.

it's a goddamn great ritual. i'm off...

uck, cut! since riz is on vacation and the dnc is underway i scratched #2 and listened intently to ex-presidents, senators and our future president speak.

i'll be returning with the ritual next week. for now please laugh with me at the art project of an only child and indulge me as i post another self-portrait.

"blah blah blah!" she said.

planting a fire escape garden

i potted basil, sunflowers and a tomato plant today to keep my wee lavender shrub company. i like looking at it through our bedroom window and i like seeing it from the street as i walk home from work. gardening is something i want to do more of.

vote for the small, cool turkey!

to my surprise and delight apartment therapy increased their size limit for the small is cool 2008 challenge . that means that our spacious palace is deemed tiny enough for another contest! i am posting to shamelessly solicit your vote.

but wait, there's a hitch, apartment therapy is one of those sites where you have to register in order to cast your ballot. i can tell you right now that a vote for the turkey is a vote for a brighter future. so go on and login. shake your tail feather while you're at it, that will make our world better too.

confidential to commenters: if we win, we'll certainly use our room and board prize money to buy a new rug for under the dining room table. cheers!

also, contrary to the title of our submission, i know that i live hear with kirk. he is the best and cleanest roommate ever so how could i forget?

Silver Christmas Kitty Tree!

We pushed Christmas into the dining room corner and will be setting off to Tucson for the holiday.

Lucky tree!

Lucky cat!

I don't imagine I'll return to these parts before the new year. Enjoy yourself. There will be kitchen, 2b and bathroom photos in the next postings. I reckon that will wrap up the house tour.

Nighttime House Tour

We did it! We painted the bedroom green! I guess I'll start the night tour there...

View from the bed:

Closer still, and with feeling:

Oh boy, that tired me out. Goodnight.

Come back tomorrow to see the Christmas tree, box box and the gang.

now with color

i've been meaning to put these photos of our Virgin Robe blue living room and the Victorious golden entry but with the delay in painting of the bedroom (Grazing green) due to the manager marching in and saying we were not to paint and must cease immediately, i put it off.

now that we have started it is hard to imagine leaving any of the walls the blah cream of their current state. i see a warm brown in the dining room, fire engine red in the kitchen and something amazing and unknown in the bathroom.

if i post about apartment s again it will be wild with color and comfort. later.

blurry baby in a bowl

we had henry, my favorite small person, and his parents over for dinner last night for a marvelously dressed salad and fancy grilled cheese sandwiches.

here you will see that henry discovered the wonders of the copper candy bowl. he was a charming guest even though throughout the evening he adamantly repeated this mantra, "i no like friends."

still, i got this sweet auntie em photo out of him,

and this lovely bouquet from his mother.

the calm after the storm, the furniture addition

welcome to apartment s. after two weeks of limitless moxie power we have settled in quite nicely to our perch above madison.

last night i could see the full moon shining through the window of the craft / guest room. it was pretty and i was happy to have a cozy little place for all my projects and - just outside the door - such a comfortable home for relaxing, entertaining and enjoying a rainy afternoon.

here's how it's shaping up:

the big day

these were taken just before our beloved moving crew stormed the joint. now, this is a place i could see moving into...

a surpise housewarming gift from sweetie was the only furnishing when i first walked in. that makes three olivetti-underwoods.

the fire escape view.

the living room.

the shiny dining room floor.

the rad brick wall.

the living room and entry.

the place is furnished now. once i return from san francisco i'll show you what it's all about. let's just say we're thrilled and boy should we be. i had something new and improved to show for at the end of each day.

the storm before the calm

my sweetie and i are moving into a new pad that i call apartment s. it is a two bedroom unit on the top floor, southeast corner of the building we already live in. i am going to create a photo essay of the mess it was when we decided to rent it (the storm) to the beauty and purpose palace we will create (the calm).

sweetie has the most discerning taste of anyone i know and our design sense matches up perfectly so i am gearing up for this to be a grand home.

let me take a stab at describing some of it's finer features here:

an exposed brick wall in the dining room (that room also boasts exposed beams, painted white, but still...)

hardwood floors in the entry, dining and living rooms. we lobbied hard to remove the hideously stained carpets that you will see in the accompanying photographs. the results are tremendous, clean lines and the sense of a larger space.

there is an abundance of light thanks to the big windows all the way around, some of which are bay windows.

a fire escape with a view of the city, the olympics and the puget sound.

from the fire escape there is a ladder that leads to the roof. only sweetie has been daring enough to climb it thus far. he said the view was A+ 100% so i plan on joining him when i've got my moxie shoes on.

a claw foot bathtub, and a brand new bathroom floor.

a gas range. i've never had one of these before, unless you count the apartment we're in now, but i've only been an official resident for a month. i'm going to bake some mean berry pies in the stove.

lot's of cabinet space in the kitchen.
